MOSCOW, March 11. /TASS/. The current visit of Feridun Sinirlioglu, Secretary-General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), to Russia underscores his wish to bring the organization back to its basic principles, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after discussions in Moscow.
"We view today’s visit by the secretary-general as a symbolic step in this direction," Lavrov stated. "It is a long journey ahead, but the secretary-general is committed to returning to the organization’s roots. We will support him in every possible way on this path."
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced that the talks would take place in Moscow on March 11. She stated that the organization remained in a "profound existential and institutional crisis," which hindered its ability to play any significant role in ensuring security in the region.
