State Duma receives treaty on security guarantees with Belarus for ratification — database

MOSCOW, February 5. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has submitted for ratification to the State Duma a treaty with Belarus on security guarantees within the Union State, according to the document published in the Duma database.

"The State Duma shall ratify the treaty between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus on security guarantees within the Union State, signed in Minsk on December 6, 2024," the document states.

"The treaty aims to enhance joint efforts for an effective response to modern challenges and threats, strengthening the security of both parties within the shared defense space of the Union State," the explanatory note states.

Following the Supreme State Council meeting on December 6, 2024, Moscow and Minsk approved the Union State Security Concept and signed an interstate treaty on security guarantees. After the meeting, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated that he had requested President Putin to deploy Russian medium-range Oreshnik ballistic missiles in Belarus. Putin confirmed that the Oreshnik system could be deployed in the republic by late 2025.
