Ukrainian army floundering, while Russian forces continue to advance — Putin

"The enemy is unable to gain a foothold in the positions where it has retreated," the Russian president noted

MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. The Ukrainian armed forces are losing manpower and equipment, while the Russian army continues to advance, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at his combined annual press conference and question-and-answer session.

"The Ukrainian armed forces are losing military hardware, weapons and ammunition, and - most importantly - troops. They are depleted," he pointed out. "What can we see on the battlefield today? Our army is advancing. The enemy is unable to gain a foothold in the positions where it has retreated. This is what is happening this very minute," Putin added.

Asked about the possibility of ending hostilities right now, the Russian president pointed out that a week-long lull would allow the enemy to secure its positions, take a respite and receive necessary equipment and ammunition.
