Zaporozhye to be region’s capital again after liberation from Ukrainian troops

On March 3, the Zaporozhye Region’s governor signed a decree approving Melitopol, where the regional administration is located, as the region’s capital

MOSCOW, March 6. /TASS/. Zaporozhye will become the capital city of the Zaporozhye Region as soon as Russian forces take control of it, Vladimir Rogov, leader of the We Are Together with Russia movement, said on Monday.

"Definitely, the city of Zaporozhye will be the capital of the Zaporozhye Region again after its liberation," he said in an Interview with the Soloviev Live television channel.

Zaporozhye region acting governor Yevgeny Balitsky said earlier that he is convinced that Russian forces will liberate the city of Zaporozhye from Ukrainian troops.

On March 3, the Zaporozhye Region’s governor signed a decree approving Melitopol, where the regional administration is located, as the region’s capital. However, the authorities did not clarify the status of the city of Zaporozhye, which was the region’s capital before the September 23-27, 2023 referendum on the region’s accession to Russia. Zaporozhye is currently controlled by Kiev.

Balitsky said in February that Russian forces control about 62.5% of the region’s territory. In late January, Russian troops took control of nine settlements in the Zaporozhye Region. As of today, the combat engagement line has stabilized.
