Rotation of IAEA staff at Zaporozhye nuke plant scheduled for March 2 — official

According to Renat Karchaa, in February, the UN Department of Safety and Security undermined the rotation of inspectors at the Zaporozhye nuclear facility three times even though the Russian side provided all security guarantees

MELITOPOL, March 2. /TASS/. A rotation of specialists from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant which was undermined three times by the UN Department of Safety and Security should take place on March 2, Renat Karchaa, adviser to the chief executive of Russia’s Rosenergoatom nuclear power plant operator, told TASS on Thursday.

"The rotation of IAEA employees so far has been scheduled for March 2 but one cannot be sure of anything with these people," he said.

The official reiterated that the rotation was supposed to take place on February 7, 10 and 18. According to him, in February, the UN Department of Safety and Security undermined the rotation of inspectors at the Zaporozhye nuclear facility three times even though the Russian side provided all security guarantees.

According to Karchaa, on February 7, the department sent a note that crossing the border in the proposed location was impossible due to alleged fierce fighting which was false, the next time it refused to rotate the inspectors due to alleged mines and asked Russia to explain their purpose while on February 15, the department proposed to meet the IAEA mission seven kilometers away from the initial meeting point.

In his opinion, this switch gives grounds to assert that the IAEA mission was supposed to serve as a screen for uncovering Russian positions at the line of combat engagement.
