Close contacts between Russian, Azerbaijani leaders help develop cooperation — Lavrov

The Russian top diplomat recalled that Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin paid his first visit to Azerbaijan on November 18, 2022

BAKU, February 28. /TASS/. Regular top-level contacts between Russia and Azerbaijan promote closer interstate cooperation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday after talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov.

"We gave a high assessment to the bilateral political dialogue, first of all on the pot level, which outlines major areas of our further work. Last year alone, our presidents met seven times and had 12 telephone calls. The intensity of their contacts continues into the current year," Lavrov said. "We share the opinion that the high degree of trust and mutual understanding between our leaders is a key component of the development of the entire spectrum of interstate cooperation."

The Russian top diplomat recalled that Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin paid his first visit to Azerbaijan on November 18, 2022. "We are glad that interparliamentary ties are being expanded. Speaker of the Russian State Duma (lower parliament house - TASS) Vyacheslav Volodin visited Baku last September and we received speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majilis (national parliament - TASS) Sagiba Gafarova in Moscow in mid-February. She met with the speaker of both houses of Russia’s Federal Assembly (bicameral parliament - TASS)," Lavrov noted.

The Azerbaijani foreign minister visited Moscow in December 2022. The two countries’ top diplomats later had two telephone conversations in January.
