Kremlin hits out at inflexible, polar opposite stance by US on Ukraine

When asked about the possibilities of finding diplomatic ways to resolve the situation Dmitry Peskov replied: "No, there is still nothing visible"

MOSCOW, January 27. /TASS/. As far as Washington’s stance goes it's not flexible and it is diametrically opposed to Russia’s viewpoint, so there is no advancement towards negotiations on Ukraine, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday.

When asked about the possibilities of finding diplomatic ways to resolve the situation he replied: "No, there is still nothing visible."

"We are not at all inclined to exaggerate the significance of the statements of Mrs. [Victoria] Nuland (Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs - TASS), nothing new has been said," Peskov said, assessing Nuland's remarks about the US readiness to ease sanctions against the Russian Federation during serious negotiations on Ukraine.

According to the Kremlin spokesman, "nothing new was stated."

"In fact, a set of theses was repeated, which indicates the absence of any maneuver or flexibility in the US position, which in turn is diametrically opposed to our position," Peskov explained.

On Thursday, at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, Nuland said the Biden administration is ready to consider easing certain sanctions on Russia if there are serious talks over Ukraine. She clarified that some easing of restrictions may occur "In the context of Russia's decision to negotiate seriously and withdraw its troops from Ukraine and return territories, I would certainly support that".
