Russia and Kazakhstan take efforts to help fight bioterrorism globally — declaration

MOSCOW, November 28. /TASS/. Russia and Kazakhstan are facilitating the launch of multilateral negotiations to develop an international convention to combat biological terrorism, a declaration on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the countries signed Monday by Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

"In order to counter the threat of chemical and biological terrorism, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan are taking steps to launch multilateral negotiations to develop an international convention to combat acts of chemical and biological terrorism within the framework of the Conference on Disarmament," the document published on the Kremlin website reads.

It is also noted that the countries "intend to develop bilateral cooperation in the field of biological security."

According to the declaration, the parties are taking practical measures aimed at mutually supporting initiatives to strengthen the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on their Destruction.

In general, the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan are joining forces to counter the threats of international terrorism, nationalism and neo-Nazism, illegal migration and human trafficking, and global information security. "The Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan exchange information and cooperate closely in identifying and suppressing channels for financing these illegal activities," the document said.
