Japan sacrifices years of negotiations with Russia to please Washington — official

Leonid Slutsky added that "anti-Russian sanctions will not go unanswered"

MOSCOW, March 22. /TASS/. Japan decided to neglect its sovereignty by joining the "sanctions chorus" of the West and sacrificed years of negotiations with Russia in favor of Washington, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky wrote in his telegram channel.

"Japan, having decided to neglect its own sovereignty, has joined the frenzied Western sanctions chorus. … Japan sacrificed for Washington many years of negotiations with Russia on concluding a peace treaty, as well as the interests of its own citizens, who lost the opportunity to visit the Southern Kuril Islands without visas," Slutsky wrote, noting that the dialogue on conducting joint economic activities there has also been terminated.

He added that "anti-Russian sanctions will not go unanswered".

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow was terminating peace treaty talks with Tokyo in the light of Japan’s newly-introduced unilateral restrictions against Russia over the situation in Ukraine.
