Russia sends firefighting machinery to other countries but regions have priority — Kremlin

Dmitry Peskov noted that unprecedented recent wildfires were being caused by climatic changes

MOSCOW, July 14. /TASS/. Climatic changes are so serious and are the cause of the unprecedented recent wildfires in Russia, but the authorities are taking the necessary measures to control them, press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday.

"Unfortunately, the environmental events are being caused by climatic changes, and these changes are so strong that we are facing unprecedented wildfires," Peskov said.

"The spread of fires differs from region to region and is unpredictable," the Kremlin’s spokesman said, responding to the question regarding the lack of equipment to suppress fires in regions, while Russian equipment is sent to other countries to help them. "Certain international arrangements are in place but the priority is also domestic, for our regions," he noted.

"If certain equipment is abroad while extreme fires are breaking out in a certain region, ways are found to compensate, equipment and resources are utilized from other regions," Peskov said. "Measures are being taken," he added.
