NATO states provided no evidence of Russia’s involvement in cyber incidents, says diplomat

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova opined that the issue of cybersecurity and digital defense will be raised at the upcoming NATO Summit this year

MOSCOW, January 21. /TASS/. NATO provided no evidence of Russia’s involvement in incidents in cybersecurity it mentioned in its report, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday, commenting on the Tallinn-based NATO Cooperative Cyber Defense Centre of Excellence report on cybersecurity, published on January 12.

"In accordance with the established Western practice, Russia was groundlessly accused of development of malware for espionage, disruption of critical infrastructure and meddling in internal affairs of other states. […] Up until now, we have not been presented with a single evidence of Russian involvement in cyber incidents," she said.

The spokeswoman stated that such statements are fiction.

"It is not in our Western partners’ style - NATO especially - to fact-check things before launching them into informational space, because many such things are fiction. They are impossible to check," she said.

Zakharova opined that the issue of cybersecurity and digital defense will be raised at the upcoming NATO Summit this year.
