Death toll of earthquake in Turkey exceeds 2,370 — authorities

More than 14,000 people were injured

ANKARA, February 7. /TASS/. The death toll of the earthquake in Turkey’s southeast has exceeded 2,370 people, with over 14,000 people injured, Vice President of Turkey Fuat Oktay said on local TV Monday.

"Currently, the death toll stands at 2,379. A total of 14,483 people were injured. A total of 7,840 buildings were destroyed," he said.

Meanwhile, over 7,300 people were extracted from under debris during search and rescue operations that have been going on for over 20 hours, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority reported Monday.

"A total of 7,340 people have been successfully rescued from under the debris. Search and rescue operation continue without interruptions," the agency said.
