Since 2022, the relevant authorities in Sanya have been consistently monitoring and updating data on mangrove wetland resources, the publication noted. By the end of 2024, the total area of mangrove forests in the city and its surroundings reached 258.69 hectares, of which 31.69 hectares are new plantations, according to official data.

As part of a project to protect and restore mangrove forests in the Telugan area, 29.20 hectares of mangrove forests have been restored. Additionally, a project to combat invasive plants and restore mangrove swamps in the Haidian River area has restored 122.2 hectares of mangrove forests.
