Libyan Energy Forum attracts companies from over 30 countries including Russia — portal

CAIRO, January 15. /TASS/. Representatives of companies from more than 30 countries, including Russia, took part in the Libyan Energy and Economic Forum, which was held in Tripoli on January 13-14, the Al-Wasat information portal.

According to the portal, in total more than 1,300 people attended the forum, which is almost twice the number of participants in the first such forum, held in 2021.

The forum was attended by the head of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, who said that Libya is currently interested in "developing the energy sector" as well as "expanding cooperation in the field of mineral exploration."

Representatives of such companies as Tatneft, Eni, Repsol, Total, Oilinvest, BGN and Sonatrach took part in the forum. Employees of the Russian Embassy in Libya also attended the energy forum. As reported in the official telegram channel of the Russian diplomatic mission, "meetings with representatives of Libyan oil service companies and heads of a number of relevant government agencies" took place on its sidelines of the event.

The Libyan Energy and Economic Forum was first held on November 22-23, 2021 in Tripoli. There were plans to hold it for the second time two years later, on November 8-9, 2023, but a week before the expected event, reports appeared about the postponement of the event to January 2024. The organizers explained this decision by the desire of Libyan companies to conclude new large contracts before the start of the forum.
