TASS, April 7. Almost 194 million tons of cargo will be transported in 2030, and more than 270 million tons - in 2035 along the Northern Sea Route (NSR ), Rosatom's envoy on the Arctic development Vladimir Panov said on Friday.
"In compliance with contracts with all the major shippers, the plan for 2030 is 193 million tons, which is by 150 million tons above the target, and for 2035 - 270 million tons against the target of 220 million tons," he said.
The cargo traffic growth would boost the number of cargo voyages along the NSR, he continued. While the plan for 2024 is 1,747 voyages, in 2030 - 3,381, and in 2025 - 3,895. "The objective is to build a large number of vessels of the high Arctic class that will provide the year-round navigation on the NSR," he said. In 2030, he continued, Russia will have 158 vessels of the kind. "Today, 29 vessels of this class are operating, another 41 vessels are being built, and 88 vessels are due. This is a great challenge for our shipbuilding industry," he said, noting all the quoted figures are still indicative, because many factors may affect the navigation model.
