MOSCOW, February 27. /TASS/. Apple has paid an antitrust fine of 906 million rubles ($12.2 mln) in the case with Kaspersky Lab for abusing its dominant position in the iOS app distribution market. Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) announced on Monday.
"Apple has paid an antimonopoly fine in the amount of 906 million rubles," the FAS said in a statement published on the service's official telegram channel. The FAS noted that the funds went to the budget of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, this was announced to reporters by a source familiar with the case. The source recalled that the corporation could have faced a doubling of the fine if it was not paid on time.
On April 26, 2021, the FAS imposed a turnover fine on Apple in the amount of 906 million rubles for violating antitrust laws. According to the watchdog, Apple abused its dominant position on the market for the distribution of mobile applications of other developers on the iOS operating system using barriers that led to the provision of competitive advantages to its own products. Simultaneously, Apple launched a similar "parental control" service.
Apple filed an appeal against the FAS decision and order, and in June 2022, the Moscow Arbitration Court rejected the company’s appeal.
On January 20, 2023, Apple filed an appeal against the decision to dismiss the claim. On February 14, the Moscow Arbitration Court dismissed the cassation appeal.
