Russian Prime Minister urges increasing settlements in national currencies in EAEU

Mikhail Mishustin noted that it is the only way to even out competitive conditions for enterprises of the EAEU countries, create a favorable environment for investors, and also remove barriers in the internal market of the EAEU

ALMA-ATA, February 3. /TASS/. Increasing the share of mutual settlements in national currencies is a priority for the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said on Friday. He was speaking at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council held in an expanded format. According to him, one of the priorities is "deepening cooperation in the financial and fiscal spheres."

"This concerns increasing the share of mutual settlements in national currencies, expanding the use of their own payment systems," he explained.

The Russian Prime Minister noted, this is the only way to even out competitive conditions for enterprises of the EAEU countries, create a favorable environment for investors, and also remove barriers in the internal market of the EAEU. Also, special attention should be paid to "convergence of administrative procedures for business," Mishustin stressed.

 

EAEU and international cooperation

 

The Russian Prime Minister noted that the EAEU is open for cooperation with all countries. According to him, the union is currently building a productive dialogue with partners on trade and economic agreements, continues negotiations on free trade agreements with Iran and Egypt.

"In the near future, the first rounds of consultations with Indonesia and the UAE will be held. Cooperation with the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, Latin America and Africa is being strengthened," Mishustin stated.

In addition, the Russian Prime Minister drew attention to the need to continue deepening ties between the EAEU and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

"Joint work with our partners in the CIS is an absolute priority," he concluded.
