Erdogan says he and Putin discussed possibility for Russia to build another NPP in Turkey

Akkuyu and Sinop nuclear power plants, when completed, will cover 20% of Turkey's electricity needs

ASTANA, October 13. /TASS/. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday said he and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin the possibility of Russia constructing another nuclear power plant in Turkey.

"As you noted, the first reactor of the Akkuyu NPP will be started in the first half of the next year," Erdogan told Putin as they met on the sidelines of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia held in Astana. "We have also discussed the issue of [building a second NPP] in Sinop [on the Black Sea coast]. If that step is taken, that will make a serious impact."

"The Akkuyu NPP will cover 10% of our electricity needs. And with an NPP in Sinop, we will able to cover another 10%, bringing the total to 20%," the Turkish president continued.
