ROME, June 19. /TASS/. Gas supply in Italy is above demand now, CEO of the Italian energy company Eni Claudio Descalzi said, cited by Adnkronos news agency.
"We are short of about 30 mln cubic meters of Russian gas per day at the moment but Italy can now offer around 200 mln. Supply is above demand at the moment: supply is 200 mln and demand is 150-160 mln," Descalzi said.
It is important to create reserves in storages filled by 54% now, the top manager said. "We should have at least 70-80% of reserves by October to cope with peak loads, which may reach 400 mln cubic meters daily in the cold winter," Descalzi added.
Eni has received a notification from Gazprom on supply on Friday of half of the requested gas volume, Italy’s energy company reported on Friday. On Wednesday, Gazprom notified Eni about the reduction of gas supplies by around 15%, whereas on Thursday the Italian company received no more than 65% of the requested gas volume. Gazprom explained the insufficient volume by problems linked with the Portovaya compressor station, Eni said.
