Hainan's Jiangdong Development Zone to expand business opportunities in 2022 – media

Hainan's free trade port has launched 142 key projects worth about $5.85 billion

HAIKOU /China/, January 21. /TASS/. The Jiangdong New District Advanced Innovation Development Zone in Haikou city in northern Hainan province will create more opportunities for business, science and education in 2022, Hainan International Communication Network reported.

According to article, to boost development 142 key projects worth 37.3 billion yuan (about $5.85 billion) were launched in January on the territory of the regional free trade port, 10 of which are located at the Jiangdong zone. This economic growth promotion program is aimed at establishing knowledge-intensive enterprises of strategic importance.

Improving the business climate

The government's measures to improve the efficiency of procedures for approving investment projects will soon be implemented in the Jiangdong New District, the network wrote. At the same time, the authorities plan to improve quality standards for infrastructure facilities. In addition, Hainan is going to ease the requirements for the organization of the production process and the operation of companies.

In the coming months, the provincial customs office is expected to further simplify procedures to the export and import goods. Thus, the one-stop-shop approach to international trade will create more innovative start-ups in the region, attract market entities that are capable of producing advanced knowledge-intensive products and providing modern services that are highly listed on the global market.

As the local government has clarified, the Hainan Free Trade Port will purposefully remove barriers for businesses in many areas of the economy, with the exception of projects related to national security issues and maintaining public stability. The government also plans to strictly control activities that may adversely affect the environment.

Partnership between employers and universities

To create new jobs and attract talent, the Haikou Development Zone will develop a new format of partnership between industry and academia, according to the portal. The cooperation is expected to boost modernization and economic growth.

For this purpose, a special platform will be created with the participation of universities and interested companies to develop specialized training programs lasting a year or more. In addition, short-term courses will be organized, taking from several weeks to two or three months.

This strategy was announced last December by China's Ministry of Education, and its main goal is to help graduates acquire the most marketable practical skills and useful knowledge in a short period of time.

In June 2018, the authorities announced the creation of an innovation zone near Meilan Airport in Haikou, Hainan's capital, dubbed Jiangdong New District, a special industrial complex with an area of more than 298 square kilometers, which plays an important role in Hainan's free trade port. An aviation industrial park is located on its territory, which is one of the strategically important objects that contribute to the formation of an advanced global transport and logistics hub on the island.
