Completion of Nord Stream 2 proves Russia's reliability as gas supplier, says Deputy PM

The construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was fully completed on the morning of September 10

TYUMEN, September 15. /TASS/. The completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline proves Russia's reliability as a gas supplier, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said on Wednesday.

He was speaking at a plenary session in the framework of the Tyumen Oil and Gas Forum.

"No matter how often opponents talk about the harmfulness of this gas pipeline, in fact, objectively speaking, this [the pipeline] is guaranteed supplies and, let's say, the proof of Russia as a reliable supplier of necessary products for Europe. Fortunately, in Germany they understand this, but, of course, the opponents from Ukraine, for obvious reasons, will fight for their happiness to keep filling their pipe," he said.

About project

The Nord Stream 2 project envisages the completion of two gas pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters per year from the coast of Russia across the Baltic Sea to Germany. Work on the project was suspended in December 2019 after Swiss Allseas abandoned pipe-laying operations due to the then-looming US sanctions. In December 2020, the construction of the gas pipeline was resumed after a year's pause.

Gazprom reported earlier that the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was fully completed on the morning of September 10. The company expects to commission the gas pipeline by the end of the year. According to the gas producer, 5.6 bln cubic meters of gas may be supplied through the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline this year.
