MOSCOW, February 7. /TASS/. Russian rescuers have saved 42 people from under the debris in Syria’s earthquake-hit areas, Oleg Yegorov, deputy chief of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties in Syria (a division of the Russian defense ministry), said on Tuesday.
"Russian servicemen continue to help the Syrian people del with the quake aftermath. The Russian military helped to clear the debris of 27 buildings. Forty-two people have been saved, 57 bodies have been retrieved from under the debris, as many as 194 pople have received medical assistance," he said.
According to Yegorov, four blood donor centers and eight humanitarian aid outlets have been organized. More than 11 tons of food and articles of daily necessity have been distributed among people.
A 7.7-magnitude earthquake rocked Turkey’s southeastern province of Kahramanmaras on Monday. The quake was followed by about 300 aftershocks, which were felt in ten regions of Turkey, as well as in neighboring countries, including Syria. According to the latest data, more than 5,400 people have been killed and over 31,000 have been injured in Turkey. According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the death toll from the earthquake in Syria exceeds 1,500 and more than 3,500 have been injured.
