Ukrainian military uses Excalibur shells against humanitarian aid outlet in Donetsk

DONETSK, December 7. /TASS/. Ukraine’s military has used the United States’ Excalibur high-accuracy guided projectiles Excalibur to shell a humanitarian aid outlet in the Kalininsky district of Donetsk on December 6, the Donetsk People's Republic’s office at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination for Issues Related to Ukraine’s War Crimes said on Wednesday.

"It has been confirmed that the Ukrainian military hit the Kalininsky district of Donetsk with M982 Excalibur guided artillery shells," the office said on its Telegram channel.

On Tuesday, the Ukrainian forces conducted massive strikes on the central part of Donetsk. Trade centers and crowded sites, including the Druzhba sports palace in the Kalininsky district of the city, where humanitarian aid and drinking water are distributed to the local civilians on a daily basis, came under fire.

The M982 Excalibur shell was developed in the US and authorized for service in 2005. The firing range of the $85,000 satellite-guided projectile reaches 57 kilometers. Apart from the US Army it is a standard weapon in Britain, Germany, Canada, the Netherlands and Sweden.

Earlier, Gorlovka’s mayor, Ivan Prikhodko, said that the accuracy of Ukrainian bombardments had increased significantly lately. At the end of August, the Politico newspaper speculated that the latest package of military support for Ukraine included, among other things, Excalibur shells. The United States preferred to avoid disclosing their supply.
