ISLAMABAD, May 25. /TASS/. The death toll from the train bombing in southwestern Pakistan has risen to 47, with nearly 100 people injured, Xinhua reported, citing rescue officials.
According to reports, at least 98 people, including 20 military personnel, were injured in the incident, which occurred in the city of Quetta in Balochistan province. The agency said the explosive device was detonated by a suicide bomber.
Earlier, the Pakistan Observer newspaper reported 24 deaths and more than 50 injuries as a result of the attack, for which the Balochistan Liberation Army, a separatist group banned in Pakistan, claimed responsibility.
According to the Associated Press of Pakistan, the explosion occurred in the Chaman Phatak area on the railroad tracks as a passenger train was passing by. As a result, three train cars derailed and two overturned. Nearby buildings and parked vehicles were also damaged.
