G7 countries powerless in Iran crisis — newspaper

BRUSSELS, March 31. /TASS/. The G7 countries have little choice but to wait and monitor developments in the Middle East crisis, Politico reports.

The publication notes that on Monday, the heads of finance and energy ministries and central banks of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom held an "unprecedented joint meeting" to coordinate their response. According to Politico, the countries issued a statement after the meeting urging nations not to restrict energy exports. The publication says the appeal was directed at Russia and China.

According to sources cited by the newspaper who attended the meeting, uncertainty over the timing of possible US-Israeli military actions in Iran is causing concern among ministers. Politicians in the EU are unable to take decisive action, as a series of past crises has forced them to tighten spending further, Politico notes.
