US revokes Romania’s membership in visa free travel program

"DHS decided that Romania’s designation should be rescinded in order to protect the integrity of the VWP and to ensure border and immigration security," The US Department of Homeland Security said

WASHINGTON, May 3. /TASS/. The US Department of Homeland Security said it excluded Romania from a visa-free travel program.

"Today, the Department of Homeland Security, in consultation with the Department of State, rescinded Romania’s Visa Waiver Program designation," the agency said in a statement on its webiste.

The Joe Biden administration designated Romania as a member country in January, according to the statement. In March, DHS paused implementation of the program in order to conduct a review of Romania’s designation.

"DHS decided that Romania’s designation should be rescinded in order to protect the integrity of the VWP and to ensure border and immigration security," the statement said. "Romania may be reconsidered for VWP designation in the future should they meet the statutory eligibility criteria.".
