Israel resumes Gaza strikes amid stalemate in hostage negotiations — Israeli top diplomat

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported on March 18 that a series of strikes had been carried out on Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip

TEL AVIV, March 18. /TASS/. Israel resumed strikes on the Gaza Strip because negotiations to return hostages had come to a deadlock, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said on Tuesday.

"For the past two and a half weeks, we have been at a stalemate: fire was ceased but the hostages were not returned. This situation is unacceptable for Israel," Ynet news portal quoted the top Israeli diplomat as saying.

"If we kept waiting, the situation would have remained the same. Hamas will not bring Israel to its knees; this will never happen," Sa’ar added.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported on March 18 that a series of strikes had been carried out on Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, Barak Ravid, a reporter for the US news website Axios, wrote on the X social media platform, citing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, that Israel had restarted military operations against Hamas in the Palestinian enclave.

According to the latest data provided by the Gaza Health Ministry, the death toll has exceeded 400, while over 562 more people were wounded.
