Rada MP calls organization of Ukrainian army retreat from Kursk Region barbaric

Earlier, Ukraine’s General Staff tried to present the retreat from the Kursk Region as "regrouping," but many experts spoke of a "very difficult" situation for the remaining Ukrainian units there

MOSCOW, March 17. /TASS/. The withdrawal of Ukrainian troops in the Kursk Region is conducted without a unified plan and coordination between the units, said Verkhovna Rada lawmaker Maryana Bezuglaya, known for her criticism of the military command.

"The retreat from the Kursk Region has not been planned - this is a new blunder. People don't get any orders to leave, each unit goes out as best they can. This is savagery on the part of [Commander-in-Chief Alexander] Syrsky," she wrote in her Telegram channel.

Last week, Ukraine’s General Staff tried to present the retreat from the Kursk Region as "regrouping," but many experts spoke of a "very difficult" situation for the remaining Ukrainian units there. On March 16, Russia’s Defense Ministry showed footage from the liberated Novaya Sorochyna, Staraya Sorochyna, and Malaya Loknya, which shows that retreating the Ukrainian military abandoned the bodies of their dead. Russian President Vladimir Putin guaranteed Ukrainian militants in the Kursk Region life and decent treatment if they lay down their arms and surrender. However, for this to happen, the appropriate order must be given by the military and political leadership in Kiev, the Russian leader pointed out.

A massive attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Kursk Region began on August 6, 2024. According to Russia’s General Staff, over 86% of the area occupied by Ukraine has already been liberated. In some sections of the border, the Russian army entered the Sumy Region. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, since the beginning of hostilities in the Kursk area, the enemy has lost over 67,000 troops. Many experts in Ukraine have long been talking about the futility of the operation in the Kursk Region. In particular, General Dmitry Marchenko said that this invasion had no clear purpose, although the best units of the Ukrainian army were involved in it. He was later dismissed. Putin said that entering the Kursk Region and staying there, while the command threw its best forces there for expendable use, made no military sense for the Ukrainian army.
