WASHINGTON, March 14. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump has said that he was sarcastic when promising to settle the Ukrainian conflict in 24 hours but is sure that he will succeed in this in the long run.
"I was being a little bit sarcastic when I said that I would. What I really mean is I'd like to get it settled, and I'll think I'll be successful," he said in an interview with the Full Measure program.
During his election campaign, Trump repeatedly said that he would settle the conflict in Ukraine in 24 hours and, moreover, he would be able to do this even before his inauguration.
Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said earlier that Putin met visiting US Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff late on Thursday but did not say what the two were talking about. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on March 12 that Witkoff would travel to Moscow to discuss ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
