TEL AVIV, March 14. /TASS/. The Israeli military will remain at five positions in southern Lebanon for an indefinite period of time, regardless of how the talks on the settlement of the Israeli-Lebanese border differences are unfolding, Defense Minister Israel Katz said.
"The Israel Defense Forces will remain at five strategic positions in the security zone inside Lebanon indefinitely to provide protection for residents in northern Israel. This decision does not depend on negotiations or discussions on contentious issues about the border," he said in a statement released by the ministry.
According to Katz, Israel plans to continue to crack down on Hezbollah’s attempts to violate the ceasefire in southern Lebanon.
"We will continue to respond harshly and without compromise to any violations by Hezbollah in Lebanon. Our main goal is to ensure the security of the people of the north in the face of any threats, and we will accomplish it with determination and consistency," he stated.
On March 11, representatives from Israel, Lebanon, the US and France held a meeting in the Lebanese city of An-Naqoura and reached a deal to establish three working groups that will address, among other things, the territorial disputes between Israel and Lebanon.
