Belarus’s Lukashenko mentions clandestine foreign phone calls to Putin

"As long as Vladimir Vladimirovich chooses to remain silent, I do not have the authority to speculate," Alexander Lukashenko said

MOSCOW, March 14. /TASS/. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has referred to some secret telephone conversations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and anonymous foreign callers.

In discussing these calls, Lukashenko touched upon the situation in Ukraine. "In Ukraine, who can we trust? No one. Yet, we still engage in dialogue," he stated in an interview on the 60 Minutes program on the Rossiya-1 channel. "It is essential to communicate with those who are willing. However, we do not see a very strong desire for a dialogue with us, with Russia. Although - without disclosing specific details, perhaps Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin] can share this himself - he has had some conversations with them. Some people put through telephone calls to him, communicated with him. He had a word with some of them. The very instance of their communication was not meant for public disclosure."

"All this remains non-public. As long as Vladimir Vladimirovich chooses to remain silent, I do not have the authority to speculate. However, he has shared certain information with me. So, if there is a desire to talk, discussions do take place. For now, they are kept under wraps to avoid journalists discovering anything. Perhaps, Vladimir Vladimirovich will take the risk and reveal who has reached out to him," Lukashenko added.
