Trump didn’t talk with Putin on Thursday, White House spokeswoman says

The US president didn’t specify whether he meant a phone conversation with the Russian leader or the talks between Putin and Witkoff

WASHINGTON, March 14. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump did not speak by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters.

"He did not, no. Steve Witkoff spoke to him [Putin] yesterday in Moscow," she said.

The US president earlier on Friday said on Truth Social, "We had very good and productive discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia yesterday, and there is a very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally come to an end."

He didn’t specify whether he meant a phone conversation with the Russian leader or the talks between Putin and Witkoff.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier that Putin met with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff late on Thursday but did not say what the two were talking about. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on March 12 that Witkoff would travel to Moscow to discuss ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

Witkoff, who had taken part in talks with a Russian delegation in Riyadh on February 18, arrived in Moscow on Thursday afternoon. According to a TASS source, he left the Russian capital on Friday morning.
