The centrist Naleraq (Milestone) party received 24.5% of the vote, the socialist Inuit Ataqatigiit (People's Community) garnered 21.4%, the social democratic Siumut (Forward) received 14.7%, and the liberal-conservative Atassut (Solidarity) obtained 7.3%

BRUSSELS, March 12. /TASS/. Jens-Frederik Nielsen, the leader of the Demokraatit (Democrats) party, which won the parliamentary elections in Greenland with 29.9% of the vote, has stated that "Greenland is not for sale," according to the Politico newspaper. He dismissed US President Donald Trump's interest in acquiring the territory, calling such remarks "a threat to our political independence."

Voter turnout in Tuesday's parliamentary elections in Greenland was 70.9%. Of the island's 40,369 eligible voters, 28,620 cast their ballots. In the previous election in 2021, the turnout was 65.9%, while a record 76% was set in 1999.

The centrist Naleraq (Milestone) party received 24.5% of the vote, the socialist Inuit Ataqatigiit (People's Community) garnered 21.4%, the social democratic Siumut (Forward) received 14.7%, and the liberal-conservative Atassut (Solidarity) obtained 7.3%. The Qulleq ("Light") party, formed in 2023, secured only 1.1% of the vote.

Trump has repeatedly asserted that Greenland should become part of the United States. The question of the island's independence - currently an autonomous territory within Denmark - has emerged as one of the central themes of the election campaign. Trump has threatened to impose high trade duties on Denmark if it does not relinquish control of the island. During his first presidential term (2017-2021), Trump proposed buying Greenland, a notion that was swiftly rejected by Danish and Greenlandic authorities.
