Parliamentary elections in Tajikistan recognized as valid, turnout exceeded 50%

At 06:00 local time, 3,513 polling stations opened across the country

DUSHANBE, March 2. /TASS/. Elections to the Majlisi Namoyandogon Majlisi Oli (Lower House of Parliament) of Tajikistan have been recognized as valid, voter turnout exceeded 50%, Chairman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums of the Republic Bakhtiyor Khudoyorzoda said.

"As of 12:00 local time (10:00 Moscow time - TASS), 59% of voters took part in voting at all 3,513 polling stations of the republic, this number is more than half of the total number of voters. The elections <...> are considered valid," he said.

On March 2, Tajikistan holds elections to the lower house of parliament and to the legislative bodies of the regions, cities, districts, and villages of the country. At 06:00 local time (04:00 Moscow time), 3,513 polling stations opened across the country. In addition, another 36 stations are operating at Tajikistan's diplomatic missions in 28 countries. Around 5.5 mln citizens of the country who have reached the age of 18 are eligible to vote, while 229 international observers are monitoring the elections.
