GENEVA, February 13. /TASS/. The Swiss Federal Council (government) has decided to adopt additional measures from the EU's 15th package of sanctions against Russia, including a ban on recognizing and enforcing certain decisions of Russian courts, the government announced in a statement on its website.
“At its meeting on 12 February, the Federal Council decided to adopt further measures of the EU's 15th sanctions package against Russia,” the statement reads. "It is now prohibited to recognize and enforce certain Russian court rulings in which Russian courts claim exclusive jurisdiction over disputes between Russian and Swiss companies,” it explained.
According to the Swiss government, this measure will safeguard the rights of Swiss businesses and protect them from financial damage caused by Russian court rulings.
On December 23, Switzerland became part of the 15th package of EU sanctions against Russia, which was adopted by the European Union on December 16. This package includes 54 individuals and 30 entities from Russia, China, and North Korea. The sanctions primarily target Russia's defense industry firms, which produce components for drones, electronics, engines, and advanced technology parts. Additionally, the 15th package bars EU courts from enforcing Russian court decisions in cases against European companies within the EU.
Switzerland, a non-EU member, despite its neutral stance, supports the EU sanctions against Russia imposed due to its military operation in Ukraine. In March 2022, the Russian government approved a list of foreign states and territories that committed hostile actions against Russia, its businesses, and citizens. Switzerland was named in the list.
