NEW YORK, February 12. /TASS/. About 57% of US residents expressed their negative attitude of former US President Joe Biden, while 59% of Americans praised former head of state Barack Obama, according to a Gallup poll.
A total of 39% of US residents expressed a positive opinion of Joe Biden, while 4% remained uncertain. His running mate, Barack Obama, received negative evaluations from 36% of respondents.
Republican George W. Bush ranked second in popularity among living US presidents, with 52% of Americans viewing him favorably and 34% disapproving. Notably, 14% of respondents found it difficult to offer an opinion - more than for any other president. Bush is also the only leader who received positive ratings from both Republicans (63%) and Democrats (48%).
Meanwhile, Democrat Bill Clinton was viewed favorably by 48% of Americans, while 41% voiced a negative opinion of him.
The incumbent US president, Donald Trump, ranked fourth out of five in a rating of living American leaders. According to Gallup, 50% of US residents viewed him negatively, while 48% had a positive opinion. Notably, this is one of Trump's highest approval ratings in Gallup's history of assessing public opinion about him since 1999. His rating was higher only in 2005, when he starred in The Apprentice reality show, reaching 50% approval, and in April 2020, when it stood at 49%.
However, the gap in opinions about Trump is remarkably high - 93% of Republicans approve of his job performance, compared to just 7% of Democrats.
Gallup analysts expect Trump's approval rating to diminish over the next four years as he assumes office, while Biden's ratings are projected to improve as Americans gradually overlook certain negative aspects of his presidency.
