Wagenknecht warns that Taurus missiles, if supplied to Kiev may open 'gates of hell'

Sarah Wagenknecht also criticized the parties of the Traffic Light Coalition, which disbanded in November, for the current state of the nation

BERLIN, February 11. /TASS/. Bundestag member and leader of the Sarah Wagenknecht Alliance - Reason and Justice (BSW) party, Sarah Wagenknecht, believes that if Friedrich Merz, the candidate for Chancellor from the conservative Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) bloc, wins the election and opts to supply Ukraine with long-range Taurus cruise missiles, it could "open the gates of hell."

"In all likelihood, Mr. Merz as Chancellor will open the gates of hell," Wagenknecht stated during a debate in the Bundestag. "That hell is war. This hell will materialize if, at the behest of Mr. Merz, Mr. [Vice Chancellor and head of the German Economy Ministry Robert] Habeck, and Mr. [former German Finance Minister Christian] Lindner, German soldiers participate in programming cruise missiles that Ukrainians can guide deep into Russian territory."

Wagenknecht also criticized the parties of the Traffic Light Coalition (the SPD, the Greens, and the FDP), which disbanded in November, for the current state of the nation. "Their shared legacy is a deeply divided country," she asserted.

On February 9, during an election debate with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Merz advocated for the supply of long-range Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, emphasizing the need for coordination within the European Union. Scholz has consistently rejected the possibility of transferring Taurus missiles - capable of reaching approximately 500 kilometers - to Kiev, stating that delivering such weapons would pose a serious risk of escalation.

Kiev has long requested Taurus missiles from Berlin, which are regarded as an equivalent to the British-made Storm Shadow missiles already supplied to Ukraine. However, the German-Swedish missiles have a longer range. As Russian President Vladimir Putin noted at the Collective Security Treaty Organization summit on November 28, Moscow has repeatedly warned that the use of Western long-range weapons against Russian territory would signify direct NATO involvement in the conflict.
