BRUSSELS, December 16. /TASS/. The EU is engaging in diplomatic contacts with the new Syrian authorities, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced upon arriving at the final EU foreign ministers' meeting of the year, the first under her chairmanship.

"I’ve also tasked top diplomats in Syria to go to Damascus to make the contacts with the new government and people there," Kallas said.

According to her, the EU foreign ministers will discuss how and "on what level" the EU will engage with the new Syrian authorities and what the EU can offer them if they move "to the right direction."
