Slovak president hopes for beginning of talks on ending conflict in Ukraine soon

"However, looking at the situation realistically, it should be noted that no one in Europe who is sober-minded thinks now that it will be possible to reach peace without Ukraine’s territorial losses," Peter Pellegrini said

BRATISLAVA, December 15. /TASS/. Slovakia’s President Peter Pellegrini said that he hopes that talks on settling the Ukrainian conflict will begin soon.

"I believe that all the parties to the Ukrainian conflict will sit down at the negotiating table soon," the TASR news agency quoted him as saying. "However, looking at the situation realistically, it should be noted that no one in Europe who is sober-minded thinks now that it will be possible to reach peace without Ukraine’s territorial losses."

According to Pellegrini, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico’s upcoming visit to Russia in May 2025 to attend celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the victory in WWII may promote the process of the settlement of the situation around Ukraine. At the same time, he stressed that Fico’s participation in the events in Moscow should be seen first of al as "venerating the memory of millions of lives sacrificed by the Soviet Union in the name of freedom of Slovakia as well.".
