Scholz politically isolated in EU, German politician says

"Regrettably, it should be said so: the majority of European politicians simply do not want to meet anymore the German Chancellor that either sits silent for hours or lectures the world," said Friedrich Merz

BERLIN, December 15. /TASS/. The German government "completely failed" in the European policy and Chancellor Olaf Scholz is politically isolated in the European Union, said Friedrich Merz, the candidate for the chancellor’s office from the conservative block of the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU).

"Regrettably, it should be said so: the majority of European politicians simply do not want to meet anymore the German Chancellor that either sits silent for hours or lectures the world," Merz said, cited by the DPA news agency. He indicated the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Poland this week, when the leaders of the two countries discussed the policy in respect of Ukraine. "The German Chancellor was not present again," he noted.

"The demonstrative lack of interest" of the German government in the European policy is observed, the politician said. This is harmful for Germany and is becoming an increasingly more serious obstacle for relations with European neighbors, Merz added.
