MADRID, December 11. /TASS/. Kiev is unable to meet the needs of its armed forces to survive in the confrontation with Russia, Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergey Marchenko stated.
"It’s impossible to meet the needs of such a powerful army using only our own resources. We are currently spending over 26% of our GDP on the military campaign," he pointed out in an interview with Spain’s El Pais newspaper. The official noted that Ukrainian forces had suffered significant losses, and Kiev had to continue replenishing military supplies.
According to Marchenko, Western countries must provide increasing support to Kiev to sustain the Ukrainian armed forces. "We need assurances in terms of the necessary weapons supplies, as well as access to advanced missiles and air defense systems," the minister said.
US President-elect Donald Trump stated on multiple occasions during his election campaign that he was committed to ending the Ukraine conflict. Vladimir Zelensky has repeatedly acknowledged the risk of losing US support for Ukraine if Trump returns to the White House. Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, in turn, mentioned that Ukraine was losing the conflict with Russia.
Meanwhile, Russian authorities continue to assert that flooding Ukraine with weapons will neither weaken Moscow’s resolve nor change the course of its military operation. Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov also emphasized that there are currently no grounds for Russia-Ukraine negotiations.
