Another anti-government rally underway in Tbilisi

Fewer protesters have gathered compared to previous days

TBILISI, December 5. /TASS/. Several hundred people have gathered in front of the parliament building in Tbilisi for another anti-government rally, a TASS correspondent reports.

The protesters have fully occupied the square in front of the parliament and blocked Rustaveli Avenue, the road that hosts the legislative body. They are calling for the resignation of the government and the holding of new parliamentary elections.

The situation at the demonstration remains calm, with reinforced police units present at the site. Fewer protesters have gathered compared to previous days.

A new wave of protests broke out in Georgia on November 28, sparked by Kobakhidze’s statement that the ruling party had decided to postpone any talk about launching EU accession negotiations until late 2028 and decline any funding from the European Union. According to the premier, the decision comes after repeated attempts by the EU to blackmail Georgia with promises of launching the talks in exchange for Tbilisi revoking certain laws passed by the country’s parliament and calls for sanctions on the Georgian authorities.

On December 4, Georgian police conducted extensive searches at the offices of opposition political parties and organizations, seizing large quantities of pyrotechnics, laser pens, spray guns, paints, and gas masks. The investigation revealed that protesters had used this equipment against law enforcement officers during previous rallies. On the first day of the operation, the police detained seven individuals for allegedly organizing and participating in group violence and forming an illegal group. Among those arrested were Nika Gvaramia, leader of the Ahali opposition party, and former MP Aleksandre Elisashvili. Earlier, the Georgian State Security Service announced it was investigating an attempt to overthrow the government through violent means.
