BRUSSELS, December 3. /TASS/. An unstable yet armed Ukraine could pose a significant threat to the European Union, Politico reported, citing anonymous sources among diplomats within the organization.
"How can we arm a country at our borders to its teeth without knowing who will be its future leader and whether it will remain our partner?" the source told the agency.
According to Politico, a number of Western diplomats had previously proposed supporting Ukraine by adopting "the Israel model." This suggests that although Israel is not formally part of a defense alliance like NATO, its close ties with the US and several European nations enable it to receive both military and diplomatic backing.
The article points out that discussions regarding the potential application of "the Israel model" originated from the rejection of the idea of swift NATO membership for Kiev by various countries, including Germany. Politico’s writers suggest that the key advantage of such a model is that Ukraine, currently involved in an armed conflict, would not be required to formally join the alliance.
