UN doesn’t encourage further escalation of Ukraine conflict — spokesman

Stephane Dujarric was commenting on a statement by EU diplomat Kaja Kallas, who said it was necessary to maintain unlimited European support for Kiev

UNITED NATIONS, December 2. /TASS/. The UN calls for an end to the conflict in Ukraine and does not encourage further escalation by either side, said Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN secretary-general.

He was commenting on a statement by EU diplomat Kaja Kallas, who said it was necessary to maintain unlimited European support for Ukraine, including a future deployment of EU troops in that country.

According to Dujarric, the UN calls for an end to the conflict, and does not encourage further escalation by one side or the other. The UN wants the conflict to end for the sake of civilians in Ukraine and Russia, and in accordance with General Assembly resolutions on international law and territorial integrity, he said.
