BEIRUT, November 27. /TASS/. The Lebanese army has started to deploy additional military contingents to the southern border in accordance with instructions from the country's government, the NNA news agency reported, citing a statement by the Lebanese Army Command.
"Mechanized units are being transferred from several areas to the Litani River in order to then advance to the southern border sectors in coordination with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon," the statement said.
According to it, the operation "is being carried out in accordance with the Lebanese government's commitment to fulfill all the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 1701."
Along with the Lebanese soldiers, tens of thousands of displaced people, who left their homes on September 23 after the beginning of the Israeli operation, headed to the south of the country. In this regard, the army command called on the citizens returning to the border towns and villages, especially in the southern districts of Bint Jbeil, Marjayoun and Tyre, to strictly follow the instructions of the Lebanese soldiers and not to approach areas where hostile forces are still present.
On Wednesday, Israeli soldiers opened warning fire twice near Kfar Kila and al-Khiyam as groups of returning refugees approached their posts.
Earlier, Lebanon’s Acting Defense Minister Maurice Sleem told the Al Jazeera TV channel that the country’s leadership intends to increase the number of troops on the border with Israel to 10,000.
