TBILISI, November 25. /TASS/. Georgia’s 11th parliament, formed based on the results of the October 26 parliamentary elections, has started performing its duties, despite ongoing protests outside the government building on Monday.
The first session of the newly formed parliament was streamed on the legislative body’s website. The majority of MPs voted in favor of a resolution affirming their rights and powers as parliamentarians. After the Parliament assumed its duties, the government handed over its powers in accordance with the Constitution of Georgia. From this point forward, all ministers, including the Prime Minister, will serve in an acting capacity until a new Cabinet is confirmed.
Only 88 MPs from the ruling Georgian Dream — Democratic Georgia party are present in the session hall, as members of opposition parties have refused to recognize the election results and are boycotting the work of the legislature. They continue to hold protest rallies, one of which is taking place near the parliament building on Rustaveli Avenue on November 25. The protesters are behaving peacefully.
