Xi Jinping calls for unification of more voices for peace in Ukraine

"We need to bring together more voices of peace and pave the way for a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis," Chinese president said

BEIJING, November 21. /TASS/. Chinese President Xi Jinping called for unification of more voices for peace in Ukraine. He made this call at a joint press conference with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Brasilia.

"China and Brazil have jointly developed a six-point consensus on a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, and together with countries of the Global South, created the Friends of Peace group," Xi Jinping said as quoted on the Chinese Foreign Ministry website.

"We need to bring together more voices of peace and pave the way for a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis," he added.

In September, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, at a meeting with Brazilian Presidential Special Representative Celso Amorim in New York, said that China, Brazil and other countries of the Global South would create a Friends of Peace platform to promote a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.

In May, following consultations, Wang Yi and Amorim issued a six-point joint statement. It states that dialogue and negotiations are the only way to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. China and Brazil proposed holding an international peace conference "at an appropriate time" "with the equal participation of all parties and discussion of peace plans."

Russia studied the proposals of China and Brazil for resolving the conflict in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin called them a "good basis" for attempts to find peace.

Russia repeatedly stated its commitment to the goals of the special military operation, including the neutral and non-aligned status of Ukraine, ensuring the security of Russian borders, and Kiev's refusal to deploy foreign weapons on its territory. In addition, Moscow declared the need to accept the "on the ground" realities: free will of the residents of Crimea, Sevastopol, the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions to live as part of Russia.
