Abkhazian authorities withdraw bill on ratification of investment agreement with Russia

Abkhazia’s parliament was expected to consider the ratification of the agreement with Russia on the implementation of investment projects in Abkhazia by Russian legal entities

SUKHUM, November 15. /TASS/. In an effort to stabilize the situation in Abkhazia, President Aslan Bzhania has made a decision to withdraw the bill on the ratification of the agreement with Moscow which would have allowed Russian companies to implement investment projects in Abkhazia, the presidential press service said, adding that a relevant document will be issued soon.

"The presidential administration is currently working on a document to withdraw from parliament the ratification of the agreement between the Abkhazian and Russian governments on the implementation of investment projects in Abkhazia by Russian legal entities. This decision has been made in a bid to stabilize the situation in the republic," it told TASS.

Abkhazia’s parliament was expected to consider the ratification of the agreement with Russia on the implementation of investment projects in Abkhazia by Russian legal entities, but the session was canceled after the lawmakers failed to agree upon its agenda. The opposition, meanwhile, demanded that the issue be removed from the agenda entirely.

Several hundred protesters gathered in front of the parliament building. Some time later, they surrounded the entire governmental compound. The Abkhazian Security Council described the situation as tense.

Abkhazian President Aslan Bzhania stressed the inadmissibility of exerting pressure on lawmakers and urged citizens to refrain from provocations.
