Ukrainian lawmakers propose closing up recruitment centers, sending staff to frontline

General mobilization was declared in Ukraine in February 2022, and has been prolonged several times since

MOSCOW, November 12. /TASS/. Ukrainian Territorial Recruitment Centers (TCCs) should be disbanded and their employees sent to the combat zone, says member of the Verkhovna Rada Temporary Investigative Commission Yuliya Yatsyk.

"In the Commission’s report, which has already been published on the parliament’s website, we propose to disband the Territorial Recruitment Centers and establish recruitment centers staffed by civilians. Meanwhile, TCC employees are servicemen, and they can perform their duties in the combat zone. Considering their numbers, it is possible to establish 10 full-fledged brigades," she said on YouTube.

Meanwhile, Yatsyk refused to answer the host’s question as to how many TCC employees could be sent to the combat zone, noting only that the number is "significantly fewer than 100,000 people."

General mobilization was declared in Ukraine in February 2022, and has been prolonged several times since. On May 18, Ukraine ramped up mobilization efforts. Still, the staffing rate in the Ukrainian armed forces has slowed down and the army is facing critical personnel shortages. As a result, TCC employees have started to mobilize people by force. This has made recruitment centers a target for disgruntled citizens, sparking a wave of arsons against TCC cars and post offices that deliver mobilization notices to the people.

In the last few weeks, the suspension of military waivers for employees at critically important production enterprises has caused the companies to butt heads with recruitment centers. They are forced to hide their employees from mobilization in order to avoid shutting down workshops or even entire factories. Still, many industrial enterprises report staff shortages; local authorities complain about a shortage of drivers and utility employees. Women are filling the positions of the mobilized men. According to Ukrainian media, the staff shortage is at record-high level, reaching 40% in certain industries.
