Houthis attempt two attacks on US tanker in Gulf of Aden

"The missile impacted the water causing no damage or injuries," the US Defense Department’s Central Command said

NEW YORK, February 26. /TASS/. The Yemen-based Houthi rebels from the Ansar Allah movement attempted to attack a US chemical and oil product tanker in the Gulf of Aden twice in one day.

"On Feb. 24 at 11:45 p.m. (Sanaa time) (same time as Moscow’s - TASS), the Iranian-backed Houthis launched one anti-ship ballistic missile likely targeting the M/V Torm Thor, a US-flagged, owned, and operated chemical/oil product tanker in the Gulf of Aden. The missile impacted the water causing no damage or injuries," the US Defense Department’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said on the X social network on Sunday.

Earlier, CENTCOM said that on February 24, USS Mason took down a projectile launched at Torm Thor from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.

Additionally, CENTCOM reported that on Saturday, the US military downed two drones over the Red Sea.

After the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Houthis warned that they would launch strikes on Israeli territory while barring ships associated with the Jewish state from passing through the waters of the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait until Tel Aviv ceased its military operation against Palestinian radical group Hamas in the embattled enclave. Since last November, the Houthis have attacked dozens of civilian vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
